In the great concert of life, our compassionate brother, Tomas Cantu III, better known as Tommy, decided to take his final bow on July 17, 2023. Born on June 22, 1969, in Mission, Texas. An empathetic soul, Tommy's heart was as large as the Lone Star State, and he had a knack for making people feel like they were as unique and valuable as a Willie Nelson guitar solo.\n\nTommy was known to spend countless hours listening to country music, with a Coke in one hand and a cigarette on the other, while talking about the Dallas Cowboys, or how the weather was going to be and what was going to cause the weather to be that way. He would watch The Weather channel and other forecasts and would draw his own forecast. Many times saying that the local weatherman had it wrong. Tommy’s forecast was one you could always count on being correct. He enjoyed storytelling and gambling. He was lucky in playing the slot machines but unlucky when it came to exhibiting his 4-H and FFA animals. When he told his stories he laughed so much he could hardly get through them because of his laughter. He would have us all laughing hysterically at his recollection of events. When he was young he served his community in his youth as a Boy Scout, a Little League baseball player, a 4-H enthusiast, and a diligent FFA member. He was trustworthy and served as Treasurer. He had fond memories while in FFA and proving that being involved and serving others can be fun when you're in good company.\n\nFor a time, Tommy served in the capacity of a roadie and sound engineer for a local country music band, a certified Nurse Assistant and licensed CDL. Tommy was the embodiment of a simple country boy. His service as an Alter Boy for San Martin de Porres in Alton, TX was something he held dear to his heart. His compassion and love were as infectious as a George Strait chorus, and he made sure to share them with everyone he met. Family and friends were the VIP guests in his life – with our mother, Alicia Cantu, playing the role of his rock. They're now reunited at the front row of heaven’s grandest stage.\n\nHe is survived by his loving father, Tomas Cantu Jr., his sister, Leonor “Lenny” Cantu, and brothers Daniel “ Danny” (Summer) Cantu and Joel “Joey” (Lynn) Cantu, nieces and nephews: Verena Miller Fitzpatrick (Andrew), Aspen Miller, Keenan Daniel Cantu, Ruly Sanchez Cantu, and Addilyn Rayne Cantu. His mother, Alicia Cantu, preceded him in death and was undoubtedly waiting for him at heaven's gate with open arms and a dish of her famous potato salad. \n\nJoin us on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, as we celebrate Tommy's life. Visitation will be at 9:00am CDT at Saint Paul Catholic Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am CDT. Tommy will then take his final ride to the Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission, Texas, where he will be laid to rest at 12:00pm CDT.\n\nIn true Tommy fashion, we ask you to share your favorite stories, pictures, and memories of him on his memorial page. After all, what's a concert without an encore of laughter and shared memories?
