Celebrating the Life of Sharon Lee Rost

December 22, 1939 – July 22, 2026

Sharon Lee Rost, wife, mother, grandmother/great-grandmother, and talented artist, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, in Mission, Texas, at the age of 86. Her passing came just two months after losing her beloved husband and partner in life for 68 years, Ronald Keith Rost.

Early Life and Family
Sharon was born on December 22, 1939, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, to Floyd and Marjorie Teubert, and graduated from Edgerton High School in 1957. After attending nursing school at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Sharon married Keith Rost in 1958. Shortly after, they moved to England with the United States Air Force, where Keith had enlisted.

Their son, David, was born in Sculthorpe, England, in 1959, and just over two years later, their daughter, Pamela, was born in El Paso, Texas. The family moved nearly a dozen times over the course of Keith's military career. Like so many other military wives, Sharon managed each move—sometimes solo—and the requisite new school registrations and resettlement activities. She worked tirelessly to make each new house a comforting home, including during the challenging year Keith was deployed to Vietnam from 1966 to 1967.

Sharon was an active Girl Scout leader and school volunteer. During these years, she also taught herself to paint and draw at night after putting the kids to bed.

Artistry and Career
Sharon pursued oil painting, ceramics, and sewing, crafting nearly all of her daughter’s outfits as well as many of her own. As her children grew and the family moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, after Keith’s retirement from the USAF, she worked as a nursing assistant at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and as a teller at Citizens State Bank, both in East Grand Forks.

In 1982, at age 43 and after launching her children into adulthood, Sharon attended college at the University of North Dakota, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education in four years. Her artistic talents flourished as she mastered formal techniques and explored new mediums. Following graduation, she taught art and English in the Waldorf-Pemberton school district, where she also designed sets for the theater department.

Sharon shared her creative vision with students of all ages, from junior high and high school classes to retirees discovering watercolor and oil painting for the first time. She encouraged her students to step past their fears of the canvas and took immense pride in organizing public shows to showcase their work. Her own talent was widely recognized; her oil painting, "Contemplation," was selected for the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition in 2020.

Later Years and Legacy
Sharon had an infectious sense of humor and love of people. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Tim and Megan, and loved spending summers with family at the couple's Beltrami Lake cabin near Bemidji—a place both she and Keith considered home to some of the happiest times of their lives. Summers were filled with boating, fishing, watching wildlife, and hosting gatherings for their children and grandchildren.

In their retirement years, Keith and Sharon split their time between Plymouth, Minnesota, and Mission, Texas, before permanently relocating to Texas in 2025. In Mission, Sharon remained active, teaching painting and organizing Aladdin Villa community events, including the annual fashion show and the popular arts and crafts exhibitions.
