MISSION - Our beloved mother, sister, and grandmother,?Rebecca?Escamilla?Vela, passed away on December 25, 2020 at 7:06 AM at Mission Regional Hospital. She was born on December 5, 1935 in Mission, Texas, she was 86 years old. \n Rebecca?Escamilla?Vela?went to Mission High School, and Graduated at the age of 17 with Honors, in 1952. She received a 4 year Scholarship for Nursing. \n She worked in the Head Start Program for 5 years. She enjoyed working with her students and loved teaching them the Alphabet and the sounds of the letters. \n Mrs.?Vela?worked in the Mission schools for 15 years. She started at Wilson Junior High with the Migrant program. Then she proceeded to work for the Winn Office Program for 5 years at the Employment Office on Broadway Street in McAllen, Texas. \n Mrs.?Rebecca?E.?Vela?also worked for Texas Work Force Commission, and Retired with 35 years of service. She was a dedicated mother and continued her education at Pan American University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education and in Spanish in 1974. \n Rebecca?Escamilla?Vela?is proceeded in death by her ex-husband, Humberto Z.?Vela, her parents, Patricio Escamilla Sr. and Aurora Solis Escamilla. \n Rebecca?Escamilla?Vela, was the only daughter of the Escamilla Family. She has 5 brothers: Patricio Rene Escamilla Jr., Israel Escamilla, Captain Joel Escamilla, Jose Escamilla, and Noe Escamilla. \n The children of?Rebecca?E.?Vela?are Elizabeth?Vela?Huerta, Humberto?Vela?Jr., and Cynthia?Vela?Lerma (deceased). \n Rebecca?Escamilla?Vela?has 4 grandsons and one granddaughter. They are Jose Luis Lerma Jr., Michael Israel Lerma, Eric Wade?Vela, Patrick Everette?Vela, and Jaclyn Kathleen?Vela. \n Rebecca?E.?Vela?has 6 Great Grandchildren. They are Alexis Lee Lerma, Faith Marie Lerma, Hope Lerma, Serenity Lynn Lerma, Ayden Luis Lerma and Dean Lerma. \n The Pallbearers are: Jose Luis Lerma Jr., Michael Israel Lerma, Humberto?Vela?Jr., Patrick Everette?Vela, Rolando Ricardo Escamilla, Patricio Rene Escamilla III, and Jose Robert Escamilla. \n Services will be held at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home. The viewing will be on Friday, January 8, 2021, from 3:00 - 9:00 PM with 7:00 PM service. Saturday's service will be at 11:30 AM at First United Methodist Church of Mission, Texas. Followed by a burial at Valley Memorial Gardens.
