Pat McCarty

–

Mission, Texas

Pat Duckworth McCarty was born to Hershel and Mazelle McCarty in Vernon, Texas on
April 23, 1943. He was called to heaven by our Lord and Savior on September 16, 2026 at the age of 83 at his home in Mission, Texas.

Pat liked to say that he was “just Pat” because his parents didn’t want him and his sister
to be saddled with long names. His early schooling was in Vernon which was home to the headquarters of the Waggoner Ranch and its famous horse Poco Bueno.

After graduating from Vernon High School, Pat attended Texas Christian University for 2 years where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma. He transferred to the University of Texas in Austin where he finished his accounting degree and fulfilled the requirements for his CPA license.

Pat volunteered and received a direct commission into the US Army Medical Corps in 1965 after graduating from Texas completing his Officer Basic Course at Fort Sam Houston and later serving his tour in Vietnam arriving in country during the Tet Offensive.

After his military service, Pat worked in banking in Houston, Texas into the 1980s before he transferred to CPA firms inclusive of Deloitte where he worked on large projects throughout the United States. In the late 1990s after spending 2 years on a project in Utah, he moved to Mission, Texas in 2000 and became a partner at Moore, Lyles, McCarty, & McGilvray until his retirement in 2026.

When Pat was not working, he enjoyed his years with the McAllen Rotary. His easy and
friendly personality made him a good communicator. He loved music, from country to
classical and loved attending various cultural events.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda B. McCarty; his children, Stephen Patrick
McCarty (Brandi McCarty) and Megan McCarty, and their mother, Bonnie Berube; his
stepchildren, Richard D Barrera, C Javier Barrera (Scandia Barrera), Hector O Barrera,
and Laura B Lukin (Mark Lukin); and his sister, Ann McCarty. Grandchildren include
Suri McCarty, Saige McCarty, Alysia A Barrera, Zachary Barrera, Danielle Lukin,
Gabrielle Lukin, and Camille Lukin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel
and Mazelle McCarty.
