Palmhurst, Texas
Palmhurst - Onesimo “Necho” Rodriguez, Jr. (1932-2026) went to be with our Lord our Father on May 8, 2026.
Onesimo was born on the Noche Buena Ranch in Cipres, Hidalgo County, Texas and lived and worked on the ranch until his early adult years. Onesimo graduated from Edinburg High School in 1952. In 1955, he enlisted and served in the United States Army with a ranking of SP3. In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart Aurora Salazar and they built a family together in the city of McAllen, Texas. In 1974, he moved his wife and children to Mission, Texas as he longed to be back to a ranch life and teach his children how to work the land and raise farm animals.
Onesimo had a variety of different jobs throughout his life and even at one point co-owned a small restaurant, but for the majority of his working years he managed Rio Grande Poultry in McAllen, Texas.
Onesimo will always be remembered as being a strong, hardworking, loving man who always found the time to tell a joke or say something funny to make you laugh/smile. Onesimo made sure to teach his children to love family, be respectful of others, lend a helping hand, and not to be afraid of hard work. He was a man you could count on to help if there was a fence to be mended, roof/home to be repaired, or a carne guisada/bbq to be cooked. Onesimo had a memory like an elephant. He was the person to go to if you had a question regarding family connections or directions pretty much to anywhere from the Rio Grande Valley to San Antonio.
Onesimo is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Aurora S. Rodriguez, parents Onesimo Sr and Gerarda (Garza) Rodriguez, a son Javier, brother Jesus Rodriguez, sisters Valentina “Tina” Rodriguez and Irene Lopez, brothers in law Epigmenio Lopez and Ted Gonzalez.
He is survived by his six children, Maria Lydia (Tito) Rodriguez from McAllen, Texas, Hugo I. (Gilda) Rodriguez from Helotes, Texas, Imelda (Javier) Arriaga from Palmview, Texas, Sylvia A. (Jesus) Guevara, Onesimo III (Diana) Rodriguez from Palmhurst, Texas and Jose F. (Trisha) Rodriguez from Harlingen, Texas as well as Twelve grandchildren, Seventeen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. A brother Gerardo (Dolores) Rodriguez and sister Maria Gonzalez both of Edinburg, Texas.
