In Loving Memory of Noel Barrera 09/17/1961 – 01/09/2024 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Noel Barrera, a true cowboy at heart, who rode into the sunset on January 9th, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of grit, determination, and a love for the land that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Noel Barrera was not only a man of the land but also a maestro of melodies, often filling the air with the soulful tunes that echoed his love for music. His guitar was a loyal companion, strumming the soundtrack of his life as he journeyed through the canyons and open ranges of life with his family and loved ones. Beyond the guitar strings, Noel Barrera carved out his legacy with his fearlessly facing challenges in operating a PBR bull-riding arena with the same determination he applied to life's trials. His cowboy spirit was a testament to his resilience and passion for living life to the fullest. He dedicated several decades of his life working with Hidalgo County prior to being one of the founding fathers of the City of Mission Health Department. As the Health Director for the City of Mission, Noel Barrera dedicated himself to the well-being of his community. His tireless efforts ensured the health and safety of others, leaving an indelible mark on the city he called home. His commitment to public service extended beyond his role, as he embraced various entrepreneurial endeavors, leaving a lasting impact on the local landscape. Noel Barrera was born on September 17th, 1961 to his loving parents, Hilario E Barrera and Candelaria M Garcia, both of whom welcomed him with open arms in heaven. He now reunites with his beloved brother Eloy Barrera, finding solace in the embrace of those who preceded him. In addition to his accomplishments, Noel Barrera cherished his family. Survived by his beloved Son Noel Barrera Jr. and his adoring daughter Rachel (Gaston) Marie Barrera-Trevino. Noel or “Noe” was a devoted father who instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and an unwavering love for family. He was a proud grandfather to Gaston Nathaniel Trevino III and Daniel Noel Trevino, showering them with affection and passing down the cowboy spirit that defined his life. In addition to his immediate family, Noel Barrera is survived by his ex-wife Cynthia E. Barrera who shared many chapters of life with him and remained a cherished friend. Their journey together left an indelible mark on the lives of their children and the memories they created as a family. Noel Barrera also leaves behind his siblings, each a testament to the Barrera family bond. He is survived by Roel (Mireya) Barrera, Maria A. (Tonya) (Manuel) Jimenez, Gloria (Joseph) Barrera Guandolo, and Linda (Ron) Barrera-Wisian, who mourn his passing while cherishing the memories of a shared past. A cowboy through and through, Noel Barrera lived a life full of adventure and purpose. He rode the open range with courage, faced challenges with resilience, and celebrated life with an unyielding spirit. His memory will forever echo in the canyons and plains he loved so dearly. The family invites friends and well-wishers to join them in a celebration of Noel Barrera's life at the funeral mass, which will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 10am, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen. May Noel Barrera find eternal peace and rest under the endless sky, forever riding on, in the hearts of those who loved him.
