Maria Josefina Hernandez

Maria Josefina Hernandez, affectionately known as Nana, GG, and Pina, was born on January 26, 1950, in Mission, Texas, and passed away on June 8, 2023. A loving, supportive, thoughtful, and funny woman, Maria Josefina was a beacon of light to everyone who knew her. As the famous quote goes, "A good laugh is sunshine in the house," and Maria Josefina's laughter and joy brought warmth and happiness to all who were fortunate enough to spend time with her.

Maria Josefina cherished her family above all else and was a devoted mother to her children, Linda Juarez, Gilbert Borrego, and Viviana Alviar. She was also a loving grandmother to Nathan (Stefanie), Suzette (Aaron), Lissette (Jorge), Alyza, Alyssa (Noe), Ariana, Nicolas, Khaleena, and Nevaeh and great-grandmother to Jorge Jr, Olivia, Matthew, Andrea, and Noe Jr. Maria Josefina was preceded in death by her loving parents, Oscar & Maria Guadalupe Hernandez, her sisters Criselda Hernandez & Rosa Flores, her brothers Mario Hernandez and Ramiro (Hermelinda) Hernandez. Maria is survived by her loving sisters Juana (Hector) Perez, Lilia (Alejandro) Martinez, Senobia (Ciro) Flores, and her dear brothers Gilberto and Oscar Hernandez. She is remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Although she spent some time in Aurora, Illinois, Maria Josefina ultimately returned to her roots in Mission, Texas, where she remained surrounded by those she loved and the community that nurtured her.

In her free time, Maria Josefina enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including knitting, playing Loteria, Poker, watching Westerns, and playing games on her iPad. Her competitive spirit brought laughter and excitement to every family gathering. Maria Josefina was truly the heart and soul of her family, creating a beautiful tapestry of love, support, and joy that will forever be remembered and cherished.

A private viewing for Maria Josefina will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 4:00 pm at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home, located at 621 East Griffin Parkway, Mission, Texas, 78572. A rosary will follow at 7:00 pm at the same location.
