Leroy Lopez, 55, of Edinburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Born on October 3, 1970, in Edinburg, Leroy was the beloved son of the late Felipe Lopez and Matilde Lopez. He grew up in Edinburg and attended Edinburg schools. As a young man, he enjoyed playing the drums and was known for his wonderful sense of humor.
Leroy worked alongside his father at Farmer’s Garage in Edinburg, where he learned the value of hard work and service. His father affectionately called everyone “primo,” and Leroy carried on that tradition with the same warmth and kindness.
Leroy completed chaplaincy training and devoted much of his life to serving God and ministering to others. He faithfully served in his church and shared the Word of God with anyone willing to listen, including incarcerated individuals. His faith remained steadfast throughout life’s struggles, and he never wavered in his belief in God or in the goodness of others.
Leroy was a sweet and compassionate soul—the youngest child and “golden boy” of the family, known for his light golden-brown hair and gentle spirit. He will be deeply missed, especially by his heartbroken children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Felipe Lopez.
Leroy is survived by his mother, Matilde Lopez; his children, Andrea Lopez Cervantes and Deo; Cynthia Deann Trevino and Amell; and Jessica Leeann Lopez; and his grandchildren, Leah Ovalle, Corina Cervantes, Harley Cervantes, Deo Cash Cervantes, Amell Elian Trevino, and Skye Maldonado.
He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria Lopez Rodriguez and Dr. Baldo Rodriguez; Lydia Lopez Aguilera; Felipe Lopez Jr. and Gracie; Elena Brown and Chris Brown; and Lynda M. Lopez; along with numerous relatives, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Leroy will be laid to rest beside his father. After a life of faith, service, and perseverance, they will at last be reunited in glory.
