Javier Garate

Javier Garate (64) of Mission, Texas passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on December 6, 2023. Javier, lovingly known as “Pa” to his granddaughter, was born to Macrina and Timoteo Garate on November 16, 1959, in Elsa, Texas. His upbringing in Monte Alto instilled a lifelong passion for fishing and family values and he loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen.

He is preceded in death by his father, Timoteo Garate and brother, Roberto Garate.

Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife, Nelda Guzman Garate, his two daughters, Venessa (Ben Vela) and Valerie (Christopher Ramirez) his granddaughter, his mother Macrina Mendoza Garate, his brothers Carlos Garate and Ramon Garate and his sisters Estela Villarreal, Maria C. Gomez, Elizabeth Tamez, Soila Chavez, Rosa Marquez, and Elma Garate.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17 at 4 p.m. followed by a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. Javier’s funeral service will be on Monday, December 18 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission.
