Mission, TX - H. Joe Date, 78, passed away peacefully at his home after a long battle with cancer on Saturday, March 27, 2021. He was born and raised in the Valley, served his country as an officer in the United States Air Force (Major, retired), raised his family in Mission, worked as a Professional Engineer, and was active in his community. He loved education and was a graduate of La Joya High School, University of Wyoming, Texas Tech University, and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. \n \n He is survived by his loving wife Eva, his children, Celisa (Ricardo), Scott (Edel), and Marcus (Laura), his beloved grandchildren, Gage, Archer, Juliana, Ellery, and Trek, his siblings, Isac, Josefina, Lupita, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and his faithful dogs Rebecca and Rochelle. \n \n Viewing will be held at Ric Brown Funeral Home 520 Ash Ave, McAllen, Texas 78501 on Monday the 5th of April, from 6:30 PM-9:00 PM. Graveside services will held at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 Inspiration Rd, Mission, TX 78572 on Tuesday, the 6th of April, from 2:00PM-3:00PM. \n \n In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (PO Box 4464, Houston, Texas 77210-4464), or the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley (PO Box 6251, McAllen, Texas 78502).
