Gilberto Perez Sr

–

Mission, Texas

In Loving Memory of Gilberto Perez Sr.

Gilberto Perez Sr., 82, of Mission, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, friendship, service, and cherished memories.

Gilberto was born on February 3, 1944, in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, to Fidel Perez and Felicitas Mendoza de Perez. He spent his life building a legacy defined by family, friendship, service, compassion, and an unwavering willingness to help others.

Early in his working life, Gilberto worked for Irrigation District 4 before beginning a long and dedicated career with the City of Mission, where he served as an Animal Control Officer for 33 years. His work was much more than simply a job. Gilberto genuinely cared about animals and the people he served, and he approached his responsibilities with kindness, patience, and a sincere desire to help. Through his many years of service, he touched the lives of countless people and animals throughout the community.

Those who knew Gilberto will remember him as a happy, warm-hearted man who enjoyed life and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. He cherished his friendships and, above all else, treasured his family. Whether helping a friend, caring for an animal, spending time with relatives, or simply sharing a conversation and a laugh, Gilberto found joy in being there for others.

Family was at the center of Gilberto’s life. He shared his many years with his beloved wife, Rita Pitones Perez, with whom he built a life filled with love, family, and countless memories. He was a devoted father to his sons, Gilberto Perez Jr. (Patricia Suarez) and Juan Alberto Perez (Michelle Salazar).

He was especially proud of his grandchildren: Concepcion Estela Perez, Alexandria Lynn Salazar, Robyn Nicole Perez (Tyler Anderson), Dylan Michael Perez, and Arron Matthew Perez. He was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Claire Anderson, who brought another special kind of joy to his life. His grandchildren and great-granddaughter held a very special place in his heart, and he treasured every moment he was able to spend with them.

Gilberto’s family was also an important part of his life and his connection to the Mission community. His brothers, Fidel Perez and Alejandro Perez, also made their homes in Mission, Texas. The closeness of family and the bonds they shared remained an important part of Gilberto’s life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fidel Perez and Felicitas Mendoza Perez and siblings in Mexico and Texas.

Outside of his work and family, Gilberto enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. He was an avid fan of baseball and professional wrestling, but nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by friends and family. He had a natural gift for making people feel welcome and was known for his cheerful spirit, generous heart, and willingness to do for others.

Gilberto leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, family, friendship, and kindness. His dedication to his community, his love for animals, and especially his devotion to his family will continue to be remembered and carried forward by those who loved him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, sons, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, extended family, and many friends. But the love he gave so freely, the lives he touched, and the happiness he brought to those around him will remain a lasting part of his family’s story.

Gilberto was a man who found happiness in helping others, strength in his family, and joy in the people and simple pleasures he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
