It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of our beloved Gerardo Javier Castorena, fondly known as Jerry, who left us on November 9, 2023. Born on December 2, 1974, in McAllen, TX, Gerardo Javier was a charismatic soul whose radiant energy would light up any room he entered. His supportive nature and compassion made him an anchor in the lives of those around him. His courage was a beacon, guiding those who knew him to be brave and strong, just as he was.\n\nGerardo Javier was a man of simple pleasures. He reveled in playing Loteria and found joy in watching novelas. His hobbies, however, were only surpassed by his love for his family. Family meant everything to Gerardo Javier. He was the kind of person who was always there for his loved ones, ready to lend a shoulder to lean on, or share a hearty laugh. As Maya Angelou once said, "I sustain myself with the love of family," and this sentiment perfectly encapsulates Gerardo Javier's life.\n\nJerry is survived by his mother, Juana Gallegos Castorena, his siblings, Alma Rodriguez and Tony Rodriguez, and his cherished niece and nephews, Erica Cortez, Michael Cortez, and Henry Cortez. He was preceded in death by his father, Juan Castorena, and Agustin Rodriguez. Gerardo Javier’s absence will profoundly impact all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.\n\nThe public viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 4:00 PM CST, at the Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission, Texas. Later that evening, at 7:00 PM CST, a rosary will be held also at the Brown Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 10:00 AM CST, at the same location. Following the service, Gerardo Javier’s burial will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM CST at the VALLEY MEMORIAL GARDENS, MISSION, Texas.\n\nIn the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Gerardo Javier's memory, his kindness, and his courage will forever remain etched in our hearts. While we mourn his departure, we also celebrate the beautiful life he lived, full of compassion, charisma. and love.\n\nWe invite all who knew and loved Jerry to share their memories and upload their photos on his memorial page. Your thoughts, stories, and images will serve as a fitting tribute to a life beautifully lived and a man deeply missed.
