Evangelina Garza Obituary (1941 - 2022)

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Evangelina de la Cruz Garza passed away peacefully at her home in Mission, TX on December 16, 2022. Eva was born on October 23, 1941. She married her high school sweetheart, Onesimo Garza, on April 15, 1957 and recently celebrated sixty five years of marriage. Eva truly enjoyed life and every moment spent with family and friends. Eva is survived by her husband, Onesimo Garza, children, Belinda (Abelino Leal), Onesimo Jr., Thelma (Arturo Salinas), Homer, Leslie (Bill Harrison), thirteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents (Jose de la Cruz and Evangelina Flores) and grandson (Onesimo Garza III). Eva was known for her cooking and baking skills; in particular, her fried chicken, homemade tortillas, and pancakes were always hits. Her family will also remember the infamous happy birthday song she would sing for their birthdays. Beyond being an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, she was an avid follower of Christ that never wavered in her faith. Eva was an ever-flowing source of love. Whether you were a part of her family or someone she spent a few minutes talking to, she genuinely cared for and loved you. Even as her health declined over the past few years, she still retained that sweet, pure and tangible joy that was unique only to her. All the lessons she shared will carry on from generation to generation, and we will always treasure the sweet memories we have of her. For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:7-8
