Elva "Apo" Boren

–

Mission, Texas

Elva Salinas Boren passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at DHR Hospice in Edinburg on Friday, July 10, 2026. She was born on August 18, 1952, in McAllen, Texas, and was a lifelong Mission resident. She leaves behind strong family ties, including her loving husband of 43 years, Jim Boren; three sisters, Irene (Ruben) Rivas of Mission, Hilda Ortiz of San Antonio, Irma Perez (Ricardo) of San Antonio; nephews Aaron (Cynthia), Sergio Rivas (Monica), Omar Rivas, Gabriel Ortiz (Maggie), Daniel Ortiz (Jeanette), Geraldo Perez (Alicia), Jaime Perez (Aissa). She was known for doting on her nephews and spoiling them at every opportunity. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her boys.
Her individual character and spirited life defined the “Apo” we knew. Her ideal Sunday afternoon included making her famous brisket with all the sides for the entire family and then sitting back to watch her beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Elva worked within Mission CISD and served for many years as manager of both R&R Loan Company and Westside Liquor Store in Mission. Her loyalty earned her many lifelong friends who will sorely miss her, especially the Divas.
Elva is preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Leonor Salinas; her father-in-law, Jerry Boren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 5-9 with a 7pm rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home at 621 E. Griffin Pkwy, Mission, Texas. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10am at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mission.
