Edith L. Bernson Obituary (1944 - 2024)

Edith Louise Bernson passed away at her home in Mission TX on May 26, 2024 after a brief and very private battle with cancer. Edith was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts, July 28 in 1944, and she graduated from Danvers High School in Danvers, MA, in 1962. After moving to Texas, she worked at Griffin and Brand of McAllen as a computer operator. She then worked for thirty-four years as the bookkeeper at Texas Citrus Mutual where her work ethic and integrity were faithful and unwavering. Edith’s loved ones, friends, and neighbors describe her as fiercely independent and equally generous to anyone in need. “Edie radiated love, light, and compassion. Her heart knew no boundaries, and her words spoke no hurt. She was a kind and genuine soul with confidence and comedy. She could relate to others with compassion because she always had an open heart to listen.” In addition to her love of people, she adored her cat Emmie, lilacs, and a good laugh. Edith is preceded in death by her parents Frank Bernson and Carolyn Putnam Berson. She is survived by her brother Albert (Ted) Bernson and his wife Denise. She also leaves behind two nieces, one nephew, eight grandnieces and grandnephews, and many loyal friends. She requested no formal services, but donations in her honor are welcomed at her favorite charities, which included the RGV Food Bank, animal welfare organizations, and the Citrus Foundation scholarship at Texas Citrus Mutual.
