David Harris Ross Obituary (1949

David Harris Ross, 76, a resident of Mission, TX , peacefully passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025. David was born on March 6, 1949, in St. Joseph, MO to Francis Reece Ross and Helen Louise Ross. He was a graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph, MO and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. He was a student-athlete proudly playing basketball for both schools. He married Linda Sue Acord on April 21, 1972 and together they had two children, Katie (Sam) Murphy; Brian (Rebecca) Ross. He was a proud “papa” to both Reece Murphy and Harrison Ross. David enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard in February 1970. He served six years specializing as a rifle sharpshooter. He began his career as a teacher and coach at Maryville High School, Fort Osage High School and Lee’s Summit High School. He left teaching to build a successful career in the banking industry as a mortgage lender for over 30 years. Following his retirement in 2017, he and his wife traveled the nation ultimately calling the McAllen area “home”. He enjoyed boating, playing golf, scuba diving, and watching sports of all kind. He was a recreational pilot and enjoyed flying his family to breakfast at a variety of regional airport locations. He was also a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight donating his aviation skills to help people in need. He was a lifelong NWMSU Bearcat fan, a Kansas City Chiefs fan, and a KU Jayhawks fan. He would never pass up on a milkshake or the opportunity to pet a furry friend. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sister Julia (Chuck) Frisbie, and brother Bill Ross. He was preceded in death by both parents. A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
