Mission, Texas

Charles “David” Crook, 75, of Mission, Texas, passed away on October 1, 2026, in Mission, Texas.

Born in Paris, Texas, on December 13, 1950, David attended Paris Junior College for one year before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in December 1972. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Texas School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree in May 1978. David practiced law in Austin and McAllen, concentrating on real estate law, and was board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in commercial and residential real estate law.

Known for his strong faith and dedication to family and friends, David was respected and served those around him with humility and love. He was a lifelong member of the Southern Baptist Church conference and taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen, Texas. For many years he was also a member of Mission’s Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ No. 1). In his retirement years, David enjoyed woodworking and turning pens, and he could always be heard cheering on the University of Texas Longhorns during football season. He loved building amazing Lego sets and proudly displayed them in his law office. David’s humor and laughter brightened any room. And his devotion to his wife, pride in his son and daughter-in-law, adoration of his granddaughter and love for his extended family and friends were unmatched. David’s legacy will live on within the lives of those he so deeply loved.

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Martin Crook, his son Daniel Crook (Joanna), his cherished two-year-old granddaughter, Marnie Crook, and his maternal aunt Myrna Foster.

David is also survived by his sister-in-law Tory Crook, sister-in-law Mary Dale Newsome (Kenny), nephew Tom Crook (Heather), great-niece Rebecca Crook, great-nephew Caleb Crook, niece Elizabeth Crook Hunter (Mark), great-niece Emily Hunter McCown (Rush), great-niece Laura Hunter, niece Laura Fulbright (Jonathan), great-niece Julia Fulbright, nephew Scott Dudley (Jessica), and by numerous beloved cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryne and Robert Crook, and older brother and best friend, Bob Crook.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Law Enforcement Officers (NLEO) Memorial Fund, 444 E Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20001, or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY, 10306, or to the charity of your choice.
