Arthur James Savoy Obituary (1943 - 2024)

Arthur James Savoy, Sr, 80, full time RVer from Grass Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his winter home in Palmview, Texas on January 31, 2024. Art was born December 1, 1943 in Wheaton, Illinois to Joseph and Mildred (Molitor) Savoy. He graduated from Newton (Illinois) High School in 1961, promptly going to work in the oil fields in Michigan and West Virginia. In 1965 Uncle Sam called him to the Army where he was a VIP driver in Seoul, Korea for 13 months, ending his two year commitment in Chicago in 1967. July 1, 1968 he married Jo Wynn and they enjoyed 55 years raising Jim and Julie, traveling to 44 states in their motorhome. For 23 years he was a volunteer fireman with the Grass Lake Fire Department. He was a 30 year Teamster, retiring from USF Holland in 1999. They sold their home and began life on the road, traveling to all 50 states and their capitols including all Canadian provinces, 45 countries on six continents. He was an active member of Family Motor Coach Association, attending rallies in many states. They joined NOMADS (Nomads On A Mission Active in Divine Service) doing volunteer projects in many US states for 15 years. They also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity RV Caravanners building homes in many US states and New Zealand. Art was a fixer who could repair anything and could find most anything on his phone. He liked maps and could look up anyplace he’d visited and once he’d found a place, he could get back there. He was predeceased by his parents, in-laws Lowell and Betty Wynn, siblings Mary Savoy, Pat McKean, Richard, Jean Ann Wilson and Rita Rule. He is survived by his wife Jo, children Jim of Jackson, MI and Julie of Kalamazoo, MI, sisters Sue (Charlie) McKean of Homer, MI and Dorothy Buchler of Jackson, MI, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Louise and Bill Denman of Cement City, MI, many nieces and nephews and his dog Nina. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Celebration of Life in Michigan in the summer.
