Let's celebrate the vibrant life of Nancy Neal, who passed away on May 20, 2023. \n\nBorn in Gurteen, Ireland on August 16, 1943, as Annie Mary Neal, we all know her as Nancy or Nan. \n\nThroughout her life, Nancy was an avid reader and always seemed to have a book in hand. Her love of books started in her childhood, spending many hours with her great friend and mentor, Jim Quinn, who introduced her to the great wide world with his book collection. \n\nLater in life, she loved collecting antiques, particularly dolls. She often wrote poetry and stories about her youth in Ireland. \n\nNancy was an animal lover, and every alley cat in Mission enjoyed her generosity. \n\nNancy loved to dance and sing. She was never shy about belting out a tune, even when her daughter suggested maybe she should be a little shy about her singing voice. Her dancing style was particularly unique and her family and friends will always fondly remember the times they witnessed Nancy Neal cut loose on the dance floor. \n\nAt the age of 19, Nancy left Ireland to attend nursing school in Mile End Memorial Hospital in London. After working as a Staff Sister in East Ham Memorial Hospital in London, she moved to Liverpool to work as a Medical Officer with special needs children in the Harold Magnay School.\n\nEventually, a Charley Pride song and a whim brought her to Fort Worth, Texas, late husband, Keith. In the early 80s, Nancy, Keith and their daughter Megan headed south, to Mission, Texas, where Nancy began working as an emergency room nurse in Mission Hospital. Trauma nursing was where she grew her roots, but taking care of veterans at the McAllen VA Clinic is where she flowered. She loved her time at the VA Clinic, and her unwavering empathy and sense of fairness made her particularly suited for the job. \n\nNancy is survived by her daughter, Megan Neal; son-in-law, Jeremy Whitted; significant other, Bruce Wilson; sister, Kitty Feeney; brother-in-law, Brendan Feeney; brothers, Barney, Tom, and John McGrath; sisters-in-law, Julie and Margaret McGrath; nieces Hilda, Sarah, Emer and Laura; nephews Hugh, Noel, Colm, Stephen, Bernard, Rory, Owen, Dermot and Daniel, as well as many cousins, relatives and loved ones. \n\nHer close friends Sue and Jerry McCall, Mila Villarreal, Janie Gonzalez, Aimee Hankins, and Barbara Elliot join the family in their grief. \n\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Neal; brother, Paddy McGrath; and mother, Anne and father, Hugh McGrath.\n\nPlease join us for a viewing on Thursday, 25 May 2023 at 4:00pm CDT at the Brown Family Funeral Home (Mission), 701 East Interstate Highway 2, Mission, Texas, 78572. \n\nA Rosary will take place at the same venue at 7:00pm CDT. \n\nImmediately prior to the Rosary, the Nurses Honor Guard will pay tribute to her career with a short ceremony and roll call.
