“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
II Timothy 4:7
Alma Casas Ramos, age 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 16th, 2026, surrounded by all her loved ones at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas.
She was born on August 11th, 1947, in Mission, Texas, to the late Leonel and Arcelia Casas. She married the love of her life, Victorino Arnoldo Ramos III in 1968, and thereafter, established their home in Mission, Texas.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents, her in- laws, Victorino and Magdalena Ramos, and her brothers in- law, David Steindel and Donald Reed.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Victorino Arnoldo Ramos III, her loving daughter Raquel (Kelly) and devoted son- in law Hector Chapa, her cherished grandsons Diego and Alec Chapa, her faithful siblings Leonel (Veronica) Casas, Alicia (Fernando) Pena, Maria Margarita Casas, Ida Steindel-Schroeder (Kenneth), Raquel (Robert) Tellez, Nora (Matthew) Piotrowski, and her loving and ever- present sister-in law, Rosie Reed. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extra-special friends whom she loved dearly and were a big part of her life.
Alma graduated from Mission High School in 1966 and Pan American College in 1981. She received her degree in Bilingual Education and was a retired elementary school teacher with the Mission Independent School District. She was a devoted and passionate educator who guided and influenced many students with direct modeling and instruction. Students were blessed with her dedication, and she was loved by many.
Alma was a sweet, peaceful, and compassionate individual, and her life revolved primarily around family and family-time adventures. She was especially joyous around her two precious grandsons, Diego and Alec. These sweet boys were her pride and joy and always lifted her spirits. She would attend their church functions, school activities, football games, baseball games, graduations, and birthday celebrations.
She prioritized family gatherings, and she valued the extra- special effort to make her presence at these special times. She would enjoy listening to all kinds of music at our outdoor barbecues, birthday parties, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas gatherings, New Year’s parties, and numerous other family events. We would often catch her swinging gingerly to her special Tejano, mariachi, western, or rock and roll music. What a blessing to now have all these beautiful memories to help carry us through!
Her courage, perseverance, and unwavering faith never faltered. She was truly a “woman of God.” Through every challenge and every struggle, her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ and the deep love of her family carried her through. Her devotion to God and to all those she loved will truly remain an endearing part of her legacy. She was truly the epitome of a woman who always preached the gospel, without hardly having to speak a word. Praise His Holy Name!
Our beloved Alma leaves behind a family who loves her dearly, and she will be missed deeply. We will continue to find comfort in His Word and believe that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” What joy it brings us to know that our beautiful Alma is already walking whole and healed, free of all pain, rejoicing in God’s presence.
We praise God for we know in Whom Alma believed, in Whom she confessed, and in Whom she worshipped. From a home filled with love, she was called to his Heavenly Glory, leaving our hearts full of beautiful memories to cherish and last an entire lifetime. And until we reunite in heaven one day, we will continue to carry our beloved Alma in our hearts, and we will love her forever and for always.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Diego Chapa, Alec Chapa, Xavier Pena, Robert Steindel, Leo Steindel, and Adrian Arredondo.
A special word of gratitude to all the doctors and staff at Mission Valley Transitional Center, Rio Grande Regional Hospital ICU unit, Dr. Rodrigo Lema, and her ever- faithful caregivers Ixceli and Laura. We are forever grateful for all the care, support and love that you provided our loved one.
“I am the resurrection and the life, He that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."
John II: 25-26
