Obituary – Willis M. Gibbs

September 14, 2017

MISSION – Willis M. Gibbs, 90, went to be with our Lord on Monday, September 11, 2017.He was born to Glen and Jessie Gibbs on August 11, 1927, in Galesburg, Ill. He spent most of his childhood in Galesburg until enlisting in the US Navy. He served during WWII. After his service he moved to Florida where he established a landscaping company with his father. His business led him to Monterrey, Mexico where he met Leonor Salinas and started a family. They had four boys which were his pride and joy. He settled in the Valley in the 1960’s. He often traveled to Europe where he started importing old classic cars. With sons in tow, it rubbed off on them. He always talked about one last trip to England. He was quite the character and could always make his family and friends laugh. He loved his cold beer and good smoke. He will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his son, Lance Gibbs; and his sister Charlotte Thagard. Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife, Maria Gorretti Castro; three sons, Glen (Silvia) Gibbs, Christopher Gibbs, and Paul (Tammy) Gibbs; five grandchildren, Presley, Drake Dean, Madison, K-Lee Aleena, and De Anne; and two great-grandchildren.Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, September 13, 2017, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.
