WESLACO – Viola Davila Zuniga, 71, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 30, 2017, surrounded by her family at Solara Hospital in Harlingen. Viola was born in Elsa, raised in Hargil and went to school in Edinburg. After graduating she attended UTPA and later married the love of her life, Genaro “Kenny” Zuniga. Viola worked in the banking industry for 12 years before moving on to a career with the Weslaco ISD. She worked as a Migrant Recruiter with the Migrant Department for 30 years, from which she retired. Viola had a huge heart for her family and her community and loved the kitchen where she spent numerous hours preparing meals for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Genaro “Kenny” Zuniga, her daughter, Mary Helen Zuniga, her parents; Gregorio and Estella Davila, her sister, Estella Solis. Viola is survived by her two children; Kenny Zuniga and Norma Zuniga, six granddaughters, Mary Helen Zuniga, Addison Taylor Zuniga, Kendra Elizabeth Zuniga, Julia Faith Zuniga, Concepcion Estella Perez and Robyn Nicole Perez; and five siblings. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary today, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco on Thursday, August 3, 2017. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Alamo.
