MCALLEN – Roel Guerra, 66, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at McAllen Heart Hospital.
Roel was born to Luis Guerra and Isabel Gutierrez on February 2, 1951, on La Victoria Ranch in La Victoria, Texas. He graduated from Moody High School in Corpus Christi in 1969 and went on for certification as a mechanical draftsman at Texas Instruments in Austin.
Roel is survived by his wife of 42 years, Olivia Noyola Guerra, five daughters: Olivia Elizabeth, Criselda Marie, Cynthia Ann, Clarissa Yvette and Patricia Daniela; seven grandchildren: Daniela, Victoria and Sofie Olivarez., J.D. and Giselle Martinez, and Javier A. Guerra and Christopher Roel Guerra; and sister Rosalia Shears.
Roel graduated from Moody High School in Corpus Christi in 1969 and went on for certification as a mechanical draftsman at Texas Instruments in Austin. He was a very talented man and worked for perfection in everything he did.
Roel cherished time with his family and pursued many interests with them. Together they hunted, fished, cooked and competed in cook-offs. He won several cooking competitions, with the highest honor being declared the winner of the World Championship in Lubbock. He became a master photographer and printmaker. He handcrafted wood frames and exhibited his work in locations from the Rio Grande Vallely to Texas Hill Country.
Visitation is from 1:00-9:00 pm on Friday, February 17, at Ric Brown Funeral Home, 621 East Griffin Parkway. Mission, Texas 78574, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 18, at La Victoria Ranch in La Victoria, Texas. Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission is in charge of arrangements.
