Obituary – Petra Ramos Flemate

February 8, 2017

MISSION – Petra Ramos Flemate, 85, passed away peacefully at Mission Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mission, Texas on Saturday, February 4, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Odem, Texas and was a resident of Mission for 33 years. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Ascencion Jose Flemate; parents, Frutoso Ramos and Luisa Mancias Ramos; sisters, Maria Flores and Anita Aleman. Petra is survived by her two children, Michael John Flemate of Mission and Anna Luisa (Daniel) Flemate Velasquez of Mission; grandchildren, Kristianna Velasquez, Jacob Velasquez, and Joanna Velasquez all of Mission. She is also survived by her sister Virginia (Vicky) Garza of McAllen; brothers, Juan (Sone) Ramos of Richland, WA; Frutoso (Joe) Ramos of Rockport, TX. Petra lived most of her life in Othello, Washington where she was a housewife and later employed as a factory worker. In 1983, Petra and Joe, along with their children moved to Mission, TX where she was employed as a factory worker at Right Away Foods Corporation. In 1990, she retired and stayed home to care for her first grandchild, Kristianna, whom she adored and continued to be the loving housewife for Joe throughout the years. She continued to care for her other grandchildren, Jacob and Joanna, who meant the world to her until she became ill in 2013. Petra was a wonderful cook and always had a delicious meal ready to offer anyone who would drop by to visit. Her children, son-in-law Daniel, and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling with her husband along the west coast and numerous places in Mexico. Special thanks to Dr. Mario Del Pino, Dr. Juan Pablo Sarmiento, Dr. Juan Pablo Calero, Dr. Adriana Gomez, Dr. Jaime Rueda, Dr. Nelson Kalaf, all of the staff at Rio Grande Regional Hospital, LifeCare Hospital, and Mission Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, caregivers, Elida Gutierrez, Zoila Cuellar, Sara Trejo, and Father Roy L. Snipes, O.M.I. Viewing will be held from 1pm to 9pm with a 7pm rosary on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen. Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission is in charge of arrangements.
