Pastor Matias G. Farias passed away, on February 1, 2017, at his residence in Mission. He was born in Seguin, TX on February 5, 1927, to Juan A. and Angelita Farias. He is preceded in death by his first wife Maria Vallejo Farias. He was a master carpenter, educator, and an active pastor up until his last days. He served in the Army, he was a WWII veteran and U.S. Army Reserves. He was a master sergeant (E8). He received the Army of Occupational Medal and Meritorious Medal. He retired from the U.S. Army on February 5, 1987 and U.S. Army Reserves on February 28, 1987. He was a member of VFW and American Legion.
In addition to his first wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Angelita F. Garcia; siblings Jose Maria Farias, Margarita Farias Taguilas, Guadalupe Farias, Rosa Farias, and Jose Farias
He is survived by his wife Dyna B. Farias; children Elizabeth F. Guevara, Evelyn F. Ybarra, Matias (Aurora) Farias Jr.; step children Dina Sanchez, Denisa Veliz, Dora Sanchez, Jesus Sanchez; son in law Rosendo C. Garcia; siblings Fernando Farias, Reynaldo Farias, Isauro Farias, Juan Farias, Juvencio Farias, Luciana Farias. He is also survived by Rosendo C. (Jenny) Garcia II, Rosette C. (David Keith) Garcia, Rosman (Cynthia) Garcia, Leslie N. (Jake) Bowlin, Jessica A. Adkison, Alex (Nikki) Farias, Peter C. (Joanne Sanchez) Ybarra, Tomas A. Ybarra; as well as by his step grandchildren Israel Garza, Isaac Garza, Crystal Aleman, Ricardo Orozco Jr., Daisy and Dinora Orozco, Timothy Silva IV, Thomas Silva, Dario Espinosa, Joshua and Jonathan Sanchez.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017, from 1-9pm with a 6pm prayer service at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017, at 9:30am at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. Burial will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Cemetery in Mission.
