MCALLEN – Norma Alicia Varela went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2017. She was born on January 20, 1971 to Felipe Fuentes and Alicia Toscano Fuentes in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Being born in Mexico, Norma had a lot of ambition and wanted to better herself so she came to the United States. While here, she went to night school to learn English then received her GED. With that achievement, she decided to follow her dreams and goals she had set forth and proceeded to go to college and earn her degree in Applied Science Child Care and Development. She was a Headstart Teacher for over 20 years. Norma was a caring, loving mother. She enjoyed her job very much as she loved and cared for her students as if they were her very own children. Norma was preceded in death by her mother Alicia and brother Felipe. She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Jasmin Gonzalez, two sons; Juan Eduardo Gonzalez and Edmundo Varela III, and three grandchildren; Jose III, Emmanuel and Olivia Perez. She is also survived by five sisters; Sara, Lucy, Maira, Irma and Marisol, and two brothers; Cesar and Francisco. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a Memorial Service commencing at 1 p.m. at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.
