Obituary – Nemesia B. Garcia

MISSION – Nemesia B. Garcia, 92, passed away on January 29, 2017 at her residence in Mission. She was born in Roma, TX on May 4, 1924 to Gabriel Benavides and Nemesia Arce Benavides. Always known as the “Recycling Queen”, she was very talented and would create beautiful art out of almost anything. She had numerous Winter Texan friends and enjoyed arts and crafts activities with them. She was an educator for 45 years, having served over 30 years with the McAllen ISD. She was a firm believer in the value of education and always encouraged family as well as students to finish their college education. Her home often served as a college dorm for nieces and nephews attending Pan American University. Nemesia was a member of the Zavala Extension Education Club of McAllen from 1980 to present. She served as President and Vice President of the club and served on the Hidalgo County Extension Education Council as well. She was recognized as an arts and crafts trainer and won numerous blue ribbons at the county, district, and state levels. She belonged to the Extension Homemaker Club and served as a Master Clothing Volunteer with the Hidalgo County Agri Life Extension. She conducted various sewing and crafts workshops at the county level. Nemesia was a faithful servant of God, and abided in His teachings, she found strength and endurance for her final journey. She volunteered with the food pantry at St. Vincente de Paul Society and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church where she and her husband attended church. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jorge Garcia.
She is survived by her sister Ana Maria de la Garza of Roma, TX as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, from 1-9 pm with a 7 pm rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 10am, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Burial will follow at Roma City Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.
