Obituary – Mary Agnes De Anda Garza
Mary Agnes De Anda Garza, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, surrounded
by her family. The fifth of 12 children, she was born February 1, 1932 on a snowy day in Valera, Texas, to
Jacinto Ortega De Anda and Blandina Torrez De Anda.
Nanny, as she was affectionately known, grew up in the west central Texas towns of Valera and
Coleman. She was a graduate of Centennial Valera High School. With her immediate family, she later
moved to Corpus Christi. After raising her children, she then worked for Kmart as the snack bar
manager. She always took pride in her meticulously clean home, and after a long day of cleaning, she
enjoyed relaxing with a cold beer and would admire her hard work.
Agnes was a devout Catholic, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was loved by many and will be greatly
missed. She will be remembered for her strong, steady faith in God, being a fierce prayer warrior,
exceptional work ethic, witty sense of humor, her famous arroz con pollo, homemade tortillas and love
She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Osbaldo Garza, Sr.; her son, Rueben E.
Diaz; her parents, Jacinto & Blandina; her sisters Dorothy De Anda Gill & Mary De Anda Major, brothers
Joe & Jacinto De Anda, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters Beverly Baker and Cynthia Morales, and Valerie Elizondo (Leo), her
siblings Max De Anda (Connie), Art De Anda, Alene Tellez, Rachel Martinez (Fred), Rebecca Vargas,
Carolyn Anderson, and Linda Sanchez (Art). In addition, she is survived by her niece Alicia Garcia (Adam),
whom she adored and cherished, as well as her grandchildren, Edie, Cyndi, & Scott Diaz and Delanie,
Noah & Whitley Elizondo, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family & friends.
Pallbearers will be her nephew Bill De Anda, TJ De La Garza, Noah Elizondo, Martin Gutierrez, Jr., Robert
Gonzalez, Leo Elizondo, and Max De Anda, as honorary pallbearer.
All services are to take place at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home, visitation will be held Wednesday,
February 3, 2021 from 3p-9p, the recitation of the Holy Rosary, 7pm, and a funeral service will be
Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 11:30am with interment to follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
