Obituary – Maria Otila Salinas Barrera

June 5, 2018

MISSION – Maria Otila Salinas Barrera, 91, entered eternal rest on Saturday morning, June 2, 2018. She died peacefully at home. She was born in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, Mexico on April 3, 1927.
Maria Otila was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Severo Barrera, her baby daughter Irma Barrera, her father Amado Salinas Garcia, her mother Manuelita Garcia de Salinas, and her brother Heraclio Salinas.
She is survived by her four children; Manuel (Olivia) Barrera, Rene Barrera, Graciela Barrera and Anna (Orlando) Olivarez, six grandchildren; Danellie Barrera, Ayssa Barrera, Annaii Barrera, Orlando Olivarez, Rene Olivarez and Laura Barrera, one brother Julian Salinas and two sisters, Cooky (Ralph) Alvarado and Janie (John) Saldivar.
In life, she enjoyed the company of her family and friends, as well as cooking their favorite meals. She had a great sense of humor, a beautiful voice and the ability to give great advice and make lasting friendships. Maria Otila was a devout Catholic whose faith was unwavering. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family and friends. Special thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Amaro Hospice and to her provider of 12 years Maria De Jesus Sanchez, for the loving care they provided over the past years. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 5th from 1 pm – 9 pm, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home, 621 East Griffin Parkway, in Mission, with a Rosary Service beginning at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, June 6th, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, Texas. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission. Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission is in charge of arrangements.
