Obituary – Leopoldo Ramirez Jr.

February 25

MISSION – Our father, Leopoldo Ramirez Jr., better known as “Papo” to all who were lucky enough to have known him passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by all his loved ones. He will be remembered for his wittiness, generosity, his unfailing work ethics, and most important the love for his family.
He had just recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. He was a proud American who fought for his country in WWII. He was a paratrooper of the 11th Airborne Division and was part of the first squad to be sent into Japan by General MacArthur.
We did not learn our values or work ethics from any books, we learned it from our father. He was the epitome of what a father, husband, grandfather, friend should be and always instilling education, work ethic, strong faith in God and civic duty. He always had an ability to listen to everyone he came across with and settle conflicts with such grace. His legacy will live on through his strong family foundation. Papo, you will be dearly missed but never forgotten. We thank you for your unconditional love and support.
He is survived by his six children, Irma R. Gomez (Jose Antonio), Dr. Mona R. Parras (Luis), Mellie R. Becho (Roy), Libby R. Pena ( Rolando), Leopoldo Ramirez III ( Lucy), Melba R. Ayala (Pete); 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; his sisters, Rosa Ortega, Alicia Perez ( Precopio); his brothers, Ramiro Ramirez (Emma), Reymundo Ramirez (Belia), Humberto Lozano ( Maggie); also numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lupita, parents, Leopoldo and Cecilia Ramirez, his brothers and sister, Reynaldo Ramirez, Ruben Ramirez, Rogelio Ramirez, and Olivia Trevino. Pallbearers will be Jose Antonio (Tony) Gomez Jr., Marco Alberto Gomez, Mike Vasquez, Petie Ayala Jr., Mikey Ayala and Beto Cantu III.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 24th, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home from 3 pm to 9 pm with a rosary at 7 pm. Funeral services will take place Monday, February 25th, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Mission at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at the Rio Grande Valley Veterans State Cemetery at 2 pm in Mission. Funeral services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Home.
We would like to give our sincere appreciation to his caregiver, Beatriz, for her unconditional love and compassion in caring for our dad. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs/McAllen, Texas.
