MCALLEN – Jazmine Elizabeth Peña, age 22, passed away on February 22, 2018. She is now at peace and is with our Lord Jesus Christ after a long, courageous battle with a rare form of cancer.
She is survived by her daughter, 1 1/2 year old Joy Elizabeth Salazar and her fiancée Lazaro Salazar; her parents Anne (Frank) Moreno and Manuel (Norma) Peña; brothers Tony Benavides, Martin (Malorie) Peña, Manuel Peña Jr. and her sister Azeneth Peña. First time aunt to Naylah, Jahaziah and Alyannah Peña; godparents Jesus & Suzanne Farias plus many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Ernesto Benavides, Helen E. Benavides; paternal grandparents Jesus Peña, and Guadalupe Peña.
Jazmine was born in McAllen, TX and attended DeLeon Middle School and Nikki Rowe High School Class of 2013. She was in Choir and she loved playing on the soccer, volleyball, and swim team. She also ran cross country. Jazzy loved math and was attending STC with hopes of becoming a math teacher before she began the fight of her life. Jazmine was always quirky, smiling, loved life, and was never materialistic. She will be missed tremendously by all that knew her.
Viewing will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 from 1-9 pm with a 7 pm Rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home at 520 Ash Ave. in McAllen. Viewing will resume at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30am. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 2 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.
