MCALLEN – Daniel Cordova Carvajal went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2017. He was born in San Antonio, TX on July 11th, 1928. On July 15, 1952 he married his wife of 59 years, Susie Ayala Carvajal. She lovingly called him her “chulo.” They were always seen together until her death in 2011.
Dan, a U.S. Marine Sargeant, proudly served his country for 5 years during the Korean War and WWII. He was a Purple Heart Medal recipient.
He then joined the McAllen Police Department and served under Chief Mussey for 5 years. He was one of the first motorcycle police officers for the McAllen P.D. Dan later established Dan’s Wrecker Service. The family business operated for 30 years. He was known to the community as, “The Old Man.”
He was preceded in death by his wife Susie, his son Ben, his daughter-in-law Mari Garza Carvajal and his grandson Bill Carvajal.
He is survived by his children, Cindy (Ignacio) Ortiz, Guy (Juanita) Carvajal, Kenneth (Sylvia) Carvajal, Tammie Mahan, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Pallbearers to accompany him are Eric Ortiz, Dan Carvajal, Kenny Carvajal, Gabriel Romo, Fabian Ortiz, Sammy Menchaca. Honorary pallbearers are Derick Gonzalez, Prestyn Homan and Levi Ortiz.
Dan will be laid to rest at the RGV State Veterans Cemetery on Thursday, July 20th at 9 a.m. There will be a luncheon immediately following at 1800 E. Business 83 in Mission. Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home of Mission.
