MISSION – Conrad W. Prukop, Sr., 96, passed away on April 16, 2018 at his residence in Mission. He was born at home in Kosciusko, Texas on February 9, 1922, but moved with his parents to the McCook area in 1928. He was a WWII veteran, having proudly served in the US Marine Corps, after leaving the military, he returned to McCook to start his lifelong career of farming. He married his sweetheart from McCook, Christine Helen Keller, on February 12, 1946. He always said “I’m the luckiest man, because I married the prettiest girl in McCook!”
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Gertrude Prukop; brothers Frank Prukop, Phillip Prukop; sister Sophie Prukop Foley Matthews and a grandson, Stephen Lucas Prukop.
He is survived by his wife, of 72 years, Christine Keller Prukop of Mission; children Wallace (Judi) Prukop of San Benito, Gabriel (Brenda) Prukop of Port Aransas, Veronica (Vernon) Schievelbein of Katy, Benedict Prukop of Austin, and Conrad (Carol) Prukop of Mission. He is also survived by his siblings Emil (Mary Jo) Prukop, Irene Lyssy, Hedwig Kotara; as well as by his 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 5-9 pm with a 7 pm rosary at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in McCook. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in McCook.
