MISSION – Betty Abbenante left this world peacefully on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, just a few days shy of her 89th birthday.
A native of Ohio, Betty spent most of her adult life in Mission, Texas. Betty is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren: Jeanne Keck (Richard, Children: Michelle (deceased), Diana , John and Michael), Josie Abbenante (Peter Abbott, Children: birth-daughter Joannah Landry, Corey and David), Kathy Howell (Larry, Children: Johnny Ray, Karen, Chris, Mike and Dana), Mary Avenanti, (Children: Shawn, Kendra, Kimberly, Alessandra, Adriana, Roxanna and Julian) Anne Lawhon (Tracy and son James Longoria), Frank Abbenante ( Maria Ofelia, Children: Candace and Crystal), Susan Abbenante, Grace Rivers (Eli and daughter Sarah), Cristina Abbenante (Howard Smith, Children : Maia and Chloe), and John Abbenante (Rita, Children: Gian, Luz and Francesco).
In addition to her 10 children and 25 grandchildren, Betty leaves behind a beautiful legacy of 21 great grandchildren, with a few others on the way, who sadly will not get the chance to meet their wise and gentle great grandma.
Betty was the heroine of her own life story; one of strong devotion and service to the Catholic Church community. She was modest, charitable and loving, and stoic in the face of adversity. She was a talented, humble artist who shied away from compliments and showered those she loved with delicious meals and her unrivaled fruit pies, which were a family and community favorite.
Our lovely mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loyal and trusted friend will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother Bernice Adelphia, her sister Jeanne Bridenbaugh, her father John Bridenbaugh, Stepfather Bert Adelphia, the father of her 10 children, John F. Abbenante and her granddaughter Michelle Louise Keck.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 4th from 5pm-9pm, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home, 621 East Griffin Parkway, in Mission, with a Rosary Service beginning at 7pm. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, June 5th, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Mission, Texas. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens in Mission.
