MCALLEN – Arthur “Art” Duane De Young, 83, passed away on March 26, 2018, at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, Texas. Art was born on September 29, 1934 in Ireton, Iowa to Theodore & Margaret De Young. As a young child, he moved to Estelline, South Dakota, which is where he was raised. Since his youth, Art enjoyed everything automotive, he enjoyed buying, selling cars, and going to the races. He enjoyed buying and selling houses as well, and could often be found at thrift stores haggling over the price of jack knives and watches. Later in life, he enjoyed participating in music jams, with his special friend Sue Croft. He is a retiree from H-D Electric after 29 years as a lineman.
He is preceded in death by his son Duane Arthur De Young and his parents Theodore & Margaret De Young.
He is survived by his children Gary (Debbie) De Young of Mountain Home, AR, Gina (Bill) Adamson of Brookings, SD, Jodi (Bill Bruns) De Young of Brookings, SD. He is also survived by his grandchildren Devin (Megan) De Young, Justin (Autumn) De Young, Jamie (Tom) Foerester, Amber Cloud, Stephanie Cloud, Stephen (Shannon) Cloud, Ciara (Brady) Jager, Sarina (Jake) Hanson, Heather (Dave) Roe, Jake Myers and 20 great grandchildren as well as by his siblings John (Sandra) De Young, Arlene (Don) Ihnen, Glenice Ihnen; and his special friend Sue Croft.
Cremation services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission, TX, a memorial service will be held in South Dakota at a later date.
