McIntosh, MN – Harold Elroy Vasend, age 72, of McIntosh MN and Mission TX, passed away peacefully on December 17th, 2015 at his home in Mission, TX. Memorial services will be held in McIntosh, MN at Our Saviors Lutheran Church on January 23, 2016. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. and Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Harold was born on March 21, 1943 in Fosston, MN to parents Elmer and Agnes (Enerson) Vasend. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh. He attended country school for 8 years in Brandsvold Township and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1960. He attended Thief River Falls Technical College after high school. From April 1963 to April 1969 he served with the North Dakota Air National Guard-119th Fighter Group based at Hector Airport in Fargo, ND. He moved to Rochester, MN where he met the love of his life, Sue (Paine) Vasend. They were married July 3rd, 1965 and moved back to McIntosh. They moved to Lake Sarah in Erskine MN in 1988 where he continued truck driving, hauling cattle and gravel. After retirement he and Sue enjoyed traveling to Texas each winter as snowbirds.
Harold did a variety of work throughout his life and was very accomplished at all of them. He joked he was a jack of all trades, and master of none. His work passions included carpentry, trucking and farming. He recently completed a woodworking project making small tables. Harold loved his family and friends, and was easy with a smile and a helpful hand. He embraced Facebook as a wonderful way to stay in touch.
He is survived by his Wife of 50 years Sue, Daughters Stacy Vasend of New Hope, MN and Sheila Judge of Hastings, MN, Grandson Alexander Judge of Hastings, Brother Donald (Judy) Vasend and Sister Lois (Paul) Middleton, both of McIntosh. He is also survived by God-Daughters/Nieces Melissa (Steve) Tradewell of Tukwila, WA and Amy (Chad) Parsley of McIntosh MN, God-Daughter Anne (Jesse) Neumann of Monticello, MN, numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his Parents and one Brother, Elroy.
He will be greatly missed.
